Beyond leadership, Voices of the Present Times is about the values that the individual authors gathered in the collection wish to pass on to their contemporaries. Above all, these stories show us how true leadership is never about material gain or power. Rather, it is deeply rooted in the transmission of cultural identity and in the dialogue we can always establish with others.
To pursue your reflection and construct a dialogue with others, you will choose one contributor to the book and write them a letter that tells them how reading their story impacted you.
- Choose one contributor to the collection and do research to learn more about their life. You can include your research findings in your letter.
- Before you start writing, examine your relationship with the person you choose by asking yourself the following questions:
a. What were my feelings about the author before I read their story? Did I already know them? Did I have preconceived ideas about them?
b. What was it about their story that touched me?
c. Are there experiences in my own life I could share with this person to connect our two stories? - Write your letter to the person you chose.
a. Variation: To add a touch of difficulty (or fun!), use one of the literary techniques discussed in Activity 2 in your letter. (You can choose to use the random draw method or not.) - Send your letter to Daniel Sioui, co-founder of the book’s publisher, Éditions Hannenorak, at editions@hannenorak.com.
a. Variation: In addition to your letter, attach the text you wrote for this exercise to Activity 2.
